You know, the cool thing about the internet is that it's basically a place where sites come and go, but most pages are there to stay and rest in the Webosphere forever.
This guy's little old webpage in plain old html really brings to light this foreverness I was just talking about. The piece right above the one below was dated 4/1/03, so it must've been written sometime close to that (he mentions it's only in the second week of war, presumably the war on terror). It's just extremely cool to find this and see his perspective on the war at that period in time, and it would be so interesting to see how or if his views have changed or stayed the same over 7 years later!
Here's his little rant:
Has everyone lost their perspective but me?Such a surreal, interesting find and definitely brings to light the power the internet has and will have in the future. When, in the future, we can search through billions and billions of webpages and see millions of different opinions at a particular time in the past it will be simply remarkable and be a point of reference for many classroom discussions and the like.
We are now in our second week at war and the media is pissed that things are "going slowly". What the hell? If I'm not mistaken , WW1 and WW2 lasted, like, a few months, at least; the Cold War, a few years - I think. Did our intellectually bankrupt society believe the war would end in less time than a Lord of the Rings movie? I actually heard a woman on the news say, "I'm really surprised people are dying over there. I thought it would over by now." Does the term "WAR" no longer mean killing people and blowing shit up? I know we are a nation hooked on Ritalin, but am I the only person without a prescription? Dam!
Oh yes, and the image I found that led me to this gem of a webpage:
